We are all trying to achieve balance in our lives whether it is a work/ life balance or on a deeper emotional level.

Mind Balance Hypnotherapy uses a combined approach of various different interventions/therapies within hypnosis to best suit the needs of each client. Examples of these are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programing , Ericksonian hypnotherapy , metaphors, suggestion techniques, guided imagery, and hypnoanalysis.

Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural and effective therapy. It helps people to make the necessary changes to enable them to achieve and maintain their desired outcome.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis occurs when a person experiences a sense of deep relaxation detached from their immediate environment, sometimes called a trance.

It is a similar state of mind to what we all have experienced in everyday life, for example a pleasant feeling when we are so engrossed in a good book or film that our focus has been directed away from our immediate concerns or problems.

As hypnosis is very relaxing it can be useful for stress management. However, on its own it doesn’t bring about change within (subconsciously). For this to occur, therapeutic interventions are introduced during hypnosis and this is the basis of hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy interventions allow an individual to be much more receptive to fresh ideas. They promote helpful balanced thinking to help a person achieve their goals and feel more in control.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent therapy for general fears, phobias, anxiety problems and stress management together with confidence building and self esteem. It is also very useful in helping people to stop smoking and for effective weight loss and weight management.

Hypnosis combined with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Hypno-CBT) is a beneficial therapy for people suffering from depression as it can reduce the number of therapy sessions needed compared with CBT alone.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT can be used in its own right or within hypnotherapy (Hypno-CBT) to help any problem or situation where a person’s style of thinking is causing them emotional upset. Negative/ anxious thoughts over time create rigid belief patterns. This is because our thinking directly affects our emotions and consequently our actions. These then feed back to our brain which learns to develop habitual unhelpful ways of reacting to certain situations.

By identifying these unhelpful thinking patterns within therapy a person can learn to change the way they are thinking and feeling to a more balanced healthy state. CBT offers a person coping skills and long term strategies.

CBT within hypnotherapy is often used when helping clients with depression, anxiety, panic disorders, phobias, sleep problems, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive behaviour or those who have anger problems. It also can be used to help improve confidence and self esteem, to break habits, for stress management and to help a person achieve their goals.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Was first developed by Bandler and Grinder in the 1970s.They observed that successful people had similar language and behavioural patterns. NLP has since evolved further to provide a much greater understanding of these thought processes, language patterns and behaviour models.

NLP teaches a person how to communicate effectively. This promotes better interpersonal skills, improves a person’s influence on others and helps us reach our desired outcomes. It addresses internal thoughts and behaviour patterns which can help or hinder situations. It utilises our senses to create helpful thoughts, emotions and behaviour.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is therefore a valuable tool within hypnotherapy to improve communication skills, to assist in problem solving and can help a person to achieve goals within both personal and professional situations. It may also be used to modify unhelpful beliefs, for example if a person has a fear or phobia, or if they require assistance to conquer a habit such as smoking, or nail biting.

Ericksonian Hypnotherapy

This style of hypnotherapy is named after the late Milton H. Erickson. Its permissive style uses language patterns and metaphors (stories) to facilitate change subconsciously.

Suggestion Therapy

Suggestion therapy is when a therapist gives positive/ helpful suggestions whilst the client is in a relaxed hypnotic state. It is generally suited to treat a simple problem like breaking a habit such as stopping smoking (if there is no deep underlying anxiety), and for general relaxation.

Guided Imagery

Guided imagery is where suggestions guide a client to imagine a calm, relaxed place (for general relaxation) or to rehearse a stressful situation in a calm relaxed way such as taking an exam or going to the dentist prior to the event.

Hypnoanalysis (Regression)

This is where an unresolved emotional issue from the past is still affecting a person (often from an event in their childhood or adolescent years).

In order to cope with the situation or event that was perceived at the time as traumatic, the inexperienced subconscious mind blocks or suppresses the emotion (often together with the precipitating event).

However, the unresolved emotion remains subconsciously and can manifest itself in symptoms such as depression, fears and phobias, eating disorders, anxiety, confidence and self esteem issues, behavioural problems or addictions.

In Hypnoanalysis the unresolved emotional issue is addressed within a safe therapeutic environment allowing the person to release their unresolved memories constructively. It therefore helps a person to gain understanding and so enables them to become more emotionally balanced.
